There are now only a few months remaining until we travel to Manchester Central for Infection Prevention 2017.

Remember it is not too late to register for conference and enjoy the early bird discount, however, please act quickly as prices will rise after Monday 3rd July 2017.

After listening to your feedback from last year, we have worked hard to develop a programme that includes the latest current and emerging threats, and state-of-the-art research on the optimisation of service/behaviour change to create a comprehensive series of lectures, specialist streams and meet-the expert sessions.

The programme has been awarded 14 CPD credits from the Royal College of Pathologists and by attending IP2017, you can add to your participatory learning for NMC revalidation.

2017 Programme Highlight

Professor Satoshi Hori, Director of Infection Control from Juntendo University in Japan will be speaking on the conference programme on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Professor Hori's first session on Tuesday morning will be on "Incorporating infection prevention into the healthcare building" which will summarise the rational and provide some evidence of infection prevention interventions associated with facility designs and management in the newly built Juntendo University Hospital.

The second session on Wednesday entitled "How do we prevent to accumulate antimicrobial resistance in healthcare settings?" will explain the supposed mechanisms of accumulating antimicrobial resistance in ecological niche in healthcare facilities, and the importance of maintaining clean environment.

2017 Programme Highlight

Dr Ruth May, Executive Director of Nursing, NHS Improvement, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer & National Director for Infection Prevention and Control will be joining us on Wednesday morning as part of the Audit and Surveillance stream.

During the session "A national perspective on the IPC ambition" Dr May will provide an update on the national programme and provide clarification on their ambition.

Deadlines for Infection Prevention 2017 are rapidly approaching!

  • Only 1 week left until abstract submissions close on Monday 12th June
  • Only 4 weeks until the early bird booking deadline on Monday 3rd July


If you have a project or piece of work that you have been working on which you would like to share then please consider submitting an abstract for consideration at conference. By doing this, you could reach hundreds of colleagues with your work.

Abstracts on all aspects of infection prevention and control are invited with particular interest in research and service improvement reports in the following areas:

  • Antimicrobial prescribing and stewardship
  • Decontamination of environment
  • Decontamination of equipment
  • Education and training
  • Epidemiology and surveillance of HCAI
  • Innovation and improvements in practice
  • Outbreaks
  • Preventing infections from invasive devices 
  • Standard precautions including hand hygiene

Important deadlines approaching for Infection Prevention 2017. If you plan on attending this year's conference in Manchester then please ensure the below dates are in your diary.

  • Monday 29th May - branch member and international member funding closes
  • Monday 12th June - abstract submission closes
  • Monday 3rd July - early bird discount ends

The programme for the Infection Prevention 2017 conference has been awarded 14 CPD credits from the Royal College of Pathologists and will be mapped to the IPS competences.

In addition, attending the IP2017 conference can count as participatory learning for NMC revalidation.

The penultimate session at this year's conference will be delivered by Dr Scott Drawer, Head of Performance Hub at Team Sky.

The session "Innovation in Performance Sport" aims to describe the approach taken to innovation in high performance sport with some examples drawn around our approach to managing illness and infection.

This not-to-be-missed session will take place on Wednesday 20th September at 3pm so optimise your performance by booking your travel after Dr Drawer’s session.

World Health Organisation Consultant to the Infection Prevention Unit Julie Storr will be delivering this year's E.M Cottrell Lecture on "Igniting Passion, Sparking Improvement".

Julie believes that 'we are our own secret weapons in protecting people from HAI'; this session will stimulate delegates to consider how to maximise this power, shape the future and be effective advocates for infection prevention and control.

Submitting an abstract at conference

An integral part of conference are the oral papers and posters. They provide the ideal opportunity for those working within infection prevention and control to share best practice and research as well the chance to network with colleagues.

If you have a project or piece of work that you have been working on which you would like to share then please consider submitting an abstract for consideration at IP2017.

Deadline for submissions is Monday 12th June 2017.

Registration for the UK's premier infection prevention and control event is now open for delegate registration and abstract submissions.

We are delighted to welcome Professor Sanjay Saint who will deliver this year's Ayliffe Lecture on "Top Ten Pearls for Success in Infection Prevention (& Life)".

During this session, he will discuss some of the tips that he has obtained during his nearly two decades conducting clinical investigation into preventing hospital infection. His research has taken him to nearly 100 hospitals in the United States, Japan, Italy, Switzerland, and England, and he will discuss the “pearls” he has learned along the way.
