Maggie qualified as a registered nurse in 1991, training at St Bartholomews Hospital in London, following which she had an extensive career in oncology and palliative care.
Maggie has combined a successful nursing career with success in education and research, completing an MSc in Palliative Care in 2010. She also completed her Doctorate in Clinical Practice at the University of Surrey in 2014, researching the perceptions of Directors of Nursing on caring practices in the aftermath of the Francis Inquiry. She was awarded Florence Nightingale Scholarships for both Leadership and Research, as well as more recently scholarship for System Leadership. She maintains strong links with the University of Surrey and, in 2020, was appointed visiting Professor.
Maggie continues to champion patient safety and outstanding patient care as Director of Infection, Prevention and Control. In her current role she has been instrumental in supporting the development of a clinical academic scholarship for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals across WSHFT. Maggie’s passion and excellence were recognised in 2019 when she was awarded Clinician of the Year by the HFMA.
