Each year the third week of October is dedicated to infection prevention, aiming to raise the profile of infection prevention and highlight the crucial role infection prevention plays in improving the quality and patient safety in healthcare. This year the OneIPS theme was chosen to accompany the International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW); IPS provides a valuable support network to infection preventionists across the UK, Ireland and several other countries across the globe. IPS aims to engage with practitioners and societies internationally through the promotion of the IPS vision, mission and strategic aim and objectives. Infection prevention has no cultural or language barriers, so join us together with other infection preventionists to celebrate this week.

For this year’s International Infection Prevention Week the International Engagement Committee within the Infection Prevention Society will collate a forum of experiences on our social media and website to show what it means to be an infection prevention practitioner in different parts of the world. We have asked practitioners in different countries to let us know what their day-to-day jobs involve, the positive side of their work and also the challenges they face. We also asked how they think being part of an IPC community such as IPS benefits them professionally. We hope this will help us appreciate more the similarities but also the differences and challenges of working in different parts of the world.
