Exploring the Role of AI in Infection Prevention and Control Practice

I’m interested to know whether anyone within Infection Prevention and Control has started using, or using artificial intelligence tools such as Chat GPT or Copilot in their practice. If so, how have you found these tools supporting your day-to-day IPC work, for example in policy development, education or data analysis?

Hi Clare, we are trying to use it a lot more. We currently use it for administration type tasks, producing basic graphics or posters, reviewing or summarising documents, email generation etc. we had a team meeting recently where one of my team did a session on AI and its abilities, but also the caveats around GDPR and that AI can get things wrong, it generated a lot of discussion. due to the IG issues, we’re not currently using it for data analysis as taking out all the PID is too cumbersome, but would like to start developing its use in this area.

Hi Nicholas, thank you for responding. Did the team member who provided a session on AI have any specialist training? The issues around GDPR was not something I had considered, a really interesting point.

No specialist training, just a lot of self-taught stuff and encouragement from me 🙂
