How Do Teams Get Notified of Patients With Previous Infections?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to understand how different teams are currently being notified when a patient with a history of infection (e.g., MRSA, C. diff, ESBL, etc.) is admitted.

Could you please let me know:

1. How does your team get alerted when a patient with a previous infection history is admitted?
– Do you receive automated electronic notifications?
– Do staff check systems manually?
– Is it communicated verbally?

2. Does your team routinely follow these patients up ?

3. Are there any gaps or challenges with the current notification process?

Thanks in advance for your input.

We have a patient alert system where if we have received the result or we are informed of a result from a neighbouring trust then we add an alert onto the patient system, this is only for C.diff, MRSA, CPE, VRE or another MDRO. The infection control team receive an electronic alert twice per day informing us that a patient with one of these alert codes has been admitted to the hospital.
