Surface and Devices Cleaning and Disinfection

I am looking to learn about all things cleaning and disinfection and specifically, where different types of cleaning and disinfection products would be used.

I would be grateful if you’d be able to let me know how often you use the following types of wipes in your hospitals/clinical areas, for what purpose, and what product format i.e. a pack, a bucket, a canister?

Please could you also let me know your role, and the area you work in?

2-in-1 cleaning and disinfection wipes and sprays
70% IPA Alcohol Wipes (for cleaning not skin)
Detergent Wipes
Sporicidal Wipes
Spill Kits

Hi
I would like to see the responses to this if you are willing to share?
I am gearing up to complete a project on BP cuff cleaning so it will be interesting to see what different trusts use and under what conditions
Thankyou

Hi

I work in Community Dental Service and we use 2-in-1 cleaning and disinfection wipes – from a pack of 200 with sealable ‘lid’. Spill wipes are used for any body fluid spillages. Detergent wipes used in non-clinical areas (workstations and reception areas).

Thanks and hope you get useful responses

In our trust we use the 2 in 1 wipes (packet in wall mounted holder)for routine cleaning of the majority of surfaces/equipment. Exceptions include equipment where the manufacturer’s instructions specifically state they can’t be used; in an isolation room; or if the bay/ward requires enhanced cleaning due to an outbreak or increased incidence of infection.
In isolation rooms we use a chlorine based product which is also used for areas requiring enhanced cleaning.
Sporicidal wipes are used only for commode cleaning.
Detergent wipes are used mainly for screens or certain items identified as being incompatible with the 2 in 1 wipes.
Alcohol wipes will only be used on specialist equipment if instructed as the only option by the manufacturer.
We do not use spill kits.
