Mat is a Lecturer at Solent University and a member of the Infection Prevention Society's R&D committee. At Solent University, Mat is Module Leader for two modules within the Department of Social Sciences and Nursing, including a Level 6 module focusing on Quality Improvement, Research, and Audit. As an R&D committee member, Mat is passionate about the personal and professional development of fellow infection prevention and control (IPC) practitioners, as well as the advancement of innovation in IPC practice through research and development.
Mat is also a Quality Improvement Mentor and the founder of Quantum Quality Improvement Coaching (also known as Quantum QI Coaching), a professional service that helps healthcare providers and professionals improve work systems, work processes, staff wellbeing, and patient outcomes.
Mat holds a PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Southampton. His doctoral studies focused on understanding the relationship between Clinical Human Factors and IPC Practices in Complex Healthcare Systems. Before pursuing a career in academia and mentoring, Mat worked in clinical practice as an Infection Prevention Charge Nurse.
