Listed below is a selection of organisations who exist to represent and help people who use healthcare and social care services.  By listing these groups IPS does not imply that it approves the content of their websites however the society believes it will be of assistance to IPS members and others wishing to find appropriate support organisations.

Cerebral Palsy Symptoms

Cerebral Palsy Symptoms goal is to raise awareness globally for cerebral palsy and other birth injuries.  Cerebral palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood, with a child being born with CP every hour. 

Community Health Councils Wales

 This organisation will: provide help and advice if you have problems with or complaints about NHS services, ensure that patients views and needs influence the policies and plans put in place by health providers in your area, monitor the quality of NHS services from the users point of view, give information about access to the NHS.

Healthwatch England

Healthwatch England is the independent consumer champion for health and social care in England. Working with a network of 152 local Healthwatch and other partners, the organisation ensures that the voices of consumers and those who use services, reach the ears of the decision makers. Healthwatch aims to develop new ways of engaging and informing people, especially those who sometimes struggle to be heard. They also believe that if they can get it right for those who need the most help, everyone will benefit from the improvements in service

Healthcare Inspectorate Wales

Healthcare Inspectorate Wales is the independent inspectorate and regulator of all healthcare in Wales. HIW’s primary focus is on:

  • Making a significant contribution to improving the safety and quality of healthcare services in Wales.
  • Improving citizens’ experience of healthcare in Wales whether as a patient, service user, carer, relative or employee.
  • Strengthening the voice of patients and the public in the way health services are reviewed.

Irish Patients Association

Meningitis Now

Meningitis Now has a single focus – to stamp out all forms of meningitis and associated diseases. They fund pioneering research into vaccines and other methods of preventing meningitis. Every week, six families face the sudden tragedy of losing a loved one to this devastating disease.

MRSA Action

MRSA Action aims to relieve the distress and suffering experienced by patients who contract healthcare associated infections and to raise the awareness of the general public in all areas relating to healthcare associated infections. MRSA Action UK works alongside other patient groups and charities, regulators and government agencies to help bring improvements and safe standards to the healthcare system.

Rate My Hospital Ireland

Irishhealth.com's 'Rate My Hospital' facility gives the public the opportunity to record how the hospital scored under a range of different headings. It will help build a picture of the level of service offered by each hospital and how patient-friendly they are. This will not only help patients but will also be of benefit to hospitals in terms of getting feedback from patients and on making improvements where necessary.

Sepsis trust

The UK Sepsis Trust recognises the scale and significance of the impact of severe sepsis on sufferers and their families. Although many patients return to a normal life, those who survive the condition may experience longstanding physical effects, and some suffer from psychological difficulties resulting from their prolonged illness. The trust provides support to patients and their relatives

TB Alert
