IPS West Midlands Branch Marion Reed Infection Prevention & Control Development Programme 2022

The IPS West Midlands branch is once again happy to announce the running of the highly successful Marion Reed Infection Prevention & Control Development Programme for 2022.

This dynamic educational programme is a 3 day course aimed at junior Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) staff. Its primary aims are to support staff in their role through increased education and knowledge but also to foster the development of a support network through the discussion of their individual IPC experiences.

Topics for this year include but are not exhaustive: antimicrobial resistance, water management, decontamination, basic microbiology, IPC within the dental community setting, sepsis recognition and the role of the IPCT, Hierarchy of Controls, Post Infection Reviews/Clinical Judgement Reviews and the Root Cause Analysis Processes, the Role of the Commissioners and NHSE/I.

It is expected that all 3 days are attended to complete the programme and the dates are as follows, with the venue being:

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Bristol Road South, Northfield, Birmingham, B31 2AP

Car parking is available for visitors to the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHSFT however at peak times the car parks can become congested, and spaces are limited but there is the alternative of parking at Northfield shopping centre (details will be provided if you secure a delegate place).

Day 1 – 21st June 2022 9am – 4pm Lecture Theatre in the Knowledge Hub

Day 2 – 20th July 2022 9am - 4pm Lecture Theatre in the Knowledge Hub

Day 3 – 13th September 2022 9am – 4.45pm Lecture Theatre in the Knowledge Hub

The third day of the course involves delegates delivering a 5–10 minute presentation supported by a 500-word written submission, on an innovative change that has been implemented to improve IPC within the workplace or team. These will be assessed on the 3rd day with the winner of the Marion Reed also being announced.

This year’s prize can be chosen from: IPS One Day Virtual Conference Place or an Annual IPS Membership or Amazon Voucher

The cost of this 3 day programme is £200 and includes refreshments and lunch and payment will be required prior to the start of the programme to secure the place.

Spaces on the course are limited and will therefore be allocated until the course is full and then notification will be sent for closure of submissions. Due to demand, we are also limiting the places to a maximum of 2 delegates from the same organisation and those within the West Midlands geographical area &/or IPS West Midlands Branch members. If any places are available, then this criteria could be extended.

Please reply to joanne.withers@mpft.nhs.uk to reserve a place or to enquire further about the programme.
