Dr Sarah Fieldhouse is an Associate Professor of Forensic Science at the University of Staffordshire and a Visiting Professor with Staffordshire Police. Sarah specialises in the visualisation of invisible substances of forensic significance, including fingerprints and body fluids. This work has extended into an innovative programme of transdisciplinary research known as forensics in healthcare, comprising multiple NHS IPC and facilities management teams, microbiologists, and experts in AI. In part this team are exploring the use of high-intensity filtered light to detect invisible contamination, assessing its microbiological relevance, and evaluating its potential for evidence-based cleaning work.
She also chairs NHS England’s research group for cleaning standards and is currently working in partnership with the Northwest Ambulance Service to further this applied research.
