A heartfelt farewell as Jude Robinson hands over the IPS Presidency

After two years at the helm of the Infection Prevention Society (IPS), Jude has officially handed over the presidency to Kerry Holden, marking the end of a leadership tenure defined by authenticity, courage and an unwavering commitment to members.

Speaking at a society event, Jude reflected on the privilege of serving as President and the many people she has met along the way. She described being continually inspired by the dedication of infection prevention and control professionals and the passion they bring to improving care for patients, populations and colleagues.

“What I will take away the most is just how much people care about infection prevention,” she said, highlighting the commitment she has witnessed through conversations with members, at events, and during discussions about the challenges facing the profession.

Throughout her presidency, Jude said she had sought to be “an authentic and passionate voice” for members, with a strong focus on engagement, accountability, transparency and good governance. She spoke of never being afraid to ask difficult questions or have challenging conversations when she believed it was in the best interests of members, corporate partners and the future of the specialty.

As she looked back on her time in office, Jude extended heartfelt thanks to those who had supported her throughout her presidency. She paid tribute to the IPS Board of Trustees, staff team, volunteers and members for their commitment and trust. She also praised the Society’s Chief Executive Officer, Fiona, expressing confidence that under her leadership the organisation would continue to grow from strength to strength.

A particularly emotional moment came as Jude thanked Vice President Kerry Holden, describing her as “the best vice president ever” and someone she had come to know not only as a colleague but also as a friend. She praised Kerry’s curiosity, courage, kindness and commitment to doing the right thing, saying she could not be happier or prouder to see her take on the role of President.

In response, Kerry paid tribute to Jude’s leadership on behalf of the Society, thanking her for her dedication, friendship and passion. She acknowledged that the Society had faced challenges during the past two years but said it had emerged stronger because of Jude’s genuine love for IPS and its members.

“You have absolutely led the society with passion,” Kerry said, adding that members had always remained at the heart of Jude’s decision-making. She also highlighted Jude’s tireless commitment, recalling her willingness to work late into the evening and beyond in order to deliver the best outcomes for members and the profession.

As she assumed the presidency, Kerry spoke of her pride and humility in taking on the role and recognised the legacy of those who had served before her. She also looked ahead to an exciting period for the Society, including preparations for IPS’s 20th anniversary celebrations in 2027.

While the evening marked a change in leadership, Jude made clear that her commitment to the Society remains as strong as ever. She thanked members for their confidence and support and pledged to continue supporting IPS and its mission as it enters a new chapter.

Jude leaves the presidency having championed member engagement, strengthened governance and steered the Society through periods of change with determination and integrity. Her leadership has helped shape a stronger IPS, and her contribution will leave a lasting impact on the organisation and the wider infection prevention community.
