Brendan Moore Award

The Brendan Moore Award celebrates individuals who have made a significant contribution to IPS while holding an official role or working closely with the Society.

About Dr Brendan Moore

This award is named after Dr Brendan Moore, a pioneering epidemiologist who played a key role in the early development of infection control.

In 1959, he appointed the first infection control nurse, and in 1970 he organised the first Infection Control Nurses Association (ICNA) conference, later serving as its first President. His legacy continues to shape infection prevention practice today.

Recent recipient

In 2025, the Brendan Moore Award was presented to Dr Mark Garvey in recognition of his exceptional leadership, research, and long-standing contribution to infection prevention.

An IPS member for over 15 years, Mark has contributed extensively through roles including West Midlands Branch Treasurer and member of the Scientific Programme Committee. His work spans research, mentorship, and global collaboration, with particular impact in water safety, microbiology, and IPC policy.
