Purpose of the Award
The Honorary Membership Award celebrates individuals who have significantly furthered the aims and goals of the Society. It is awarded to those whose voluntary contributions have had a meaningful impact on the organisation and its members.
Recent recipient
In 2025, the Honorary Membership Award was presented to Dr Neil Wigglesworth in recognition of over 26 years of exceptional service to IPS. Neil has held a range of senior leadership roles including IPS President, Vice President, and Executive Officer, and has contributed extensively to national and international infection prevention and control work.

Nominations now closed
Nominations for the 2026 Honorary Membership Award closed on 1 June 2026.
Thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination. All nominations will now be reviewed in accordance with the Society’s award process.
Details of future nomination rounds will be published on this page and shared through IPS communications.
Criteria
To be eligible for Honorary Membership, nominees must:
- Be a current member of the Society.
- Have taken on significant roles or contributed on a voluntary basis to benefit the entire membership.
- Have made a substantial contribution to advancing the Society’s aims and goals.
- Have furthered the Society’s mission through significant involvement in national groups or committees on behalf of IPS over the course of their career.
Nomination Process
Any IPS member may nominate an individual who meets the award criteria. Nominations are invited annually and must be submitted using the Honorary Membership Nomination Form when the nomination period is open.
Announcement
The Honorary Membership Award recipient are announced at the Infection Prevention Society Annual Conference in September.
