Device Related Infection Prevention Practice (DRIPP)

Overview

Device-Related Infection Prevention Practice, also known as DRIPP, exists to promote and spread best practices to reduce infections caused by medical devices like urinary catheters and intravascular devices, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

DRIPP (Device-Related Infection Prevention Practice) is an improvement collaborative between the Infection Prevention Society (IPS), British Association of Urological Nurses (BAUN), Association for Continence Professionals (ACP), Association for Safe Aseptic Practice (ASAP), National Infusion and Vascular Access Society (NIVAS) and the National Nurses Nutrition Group (NNNG).

It is supported by an educational grant from BD.

Why does this matter?

  • Medical devices can increase the risk of healthcare-associated infections.
  • These infections lead to illness, death, and higher healthcare costs.
  • Many of these infections can be prevented with better use of evidence-based practices.
  • Working together to improve infection prevention practices can save lives and enhance patient care.

What does DRIPP do?

  • Highlights the importance of preventing device-related infections.
  • Encourages healthcare professionals and institutions to take action.
  • Shares free educational materials and resources to support best practices.
  • Brings together professional groups, industry partners, and patient advocacy organisations to collaborate.
