The Infection Prevention Society (IPS) is delighted to award Dr Neil Wigglesworth Honorary Membership in recognition of his exceptional service, leadership, and dedication to the Society and the wider field of infection prevention and control.
Over an outstanding 26 years, Neil has made a lasting impact on the Society and its members, helping to shape the IPS into the thriving, forward-thinking organisation it is today.
Neil’s journey with the Society began in 1998, when he coordinated the Infection Control Nurses Association (ICNA) IT Group. Since then, he has held numerous influential roles, including Deputy ICNA Secretary, Executive Officer and Secretary of IPS, Vice President, and IPS President (2016–2019). He also served as IPS/IFIC Board Member, Chair of the Quality Improvement Tools Group, and a member of the Research and Development Committee and Editorial Management Group.
Throughout his career, Neil has been an influential leader, representing IPS and ICNA internationally by contributing to working parties and conferences, and sharing his expertise in infection prevention long after his retirement in 2023.
As IPS President, Neil played a pivotal role in guiding the Society into a new chapter, supporting the Patron, Board, and membership to strengthen IPS’s vision, mission, and strategic direction. His leadership helped modernise the organisation and elevate its profile nationally and internationally.
Neil’s exceptional contributions have previously been recognised through the Brendon Moore Award, and he has also been nominated to deliver the prestigious Cottrell Lecture at IP2025.
In nominating Neil for this honour, colleagues described him as “an extremely active, passionate member who has provided his own time, expertise and services above and beyond for the benefit of the Society and its membership.”
Even in retirement, Neil continues to be a valued ambassador for IPS, embodying the Society’s vision of a world where no person is harmed by a preventable infection.
Congratulations to Dr Neil Wigglesworth on this well-deserved recognition and thanks him for his decades of dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to infection prevention.
