We are deeply saddened to share the news that Kath Banfield, a valued and much-loved member of the Infection Prevention Society, has passed away.
Kath was a dedicated and passionate advocate for infection prevention and control throughout her career. She worked for many years in IPC at Friarage Hospital in Northallerton before joining Harrogate District Foundation Trust in 1997 as IPC Matron. Her commitment and leadership saw her promoted to Head of Nursing, a role she carried out with great care and professionalism for several years.
Following her retirement, Kath’s passion for IPC remained strong. She returned to practice as a Community IPC Nurse Specialist with the North Yorkshire and York IPC Team, continuing to share her knowledge and support colleagues across the region.
Kath will be remembered not only for her significant contribution to IPC, but also for her dedication, warmth and the positive impact she had on those who worked with her.
Kath died peacefully on 9 March after a period of illness. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday 1 April at 10:00am at St Wilfred’s Catholic Church in Ripon.
Our thoughts are with Kath’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.
