IPS seeks new Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Infection Prevention

We’re looking for the next Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Infection Prevention (JIP).

The Journal of Infection Prevention is a respected, peer-reviewed publication providing a platform for sharing innovation, practical insights, and applied research in infection prevention and control (IPC).

As Professor Loveday prepares to step down later this year, IPS is seeking an inspirational new Editor-in-Chief to lead the Journal through its next chapter. Alex Rhys, CEO of IPS, said: “Under Professor Heather Loveday’s leadership, JIP has strengthened its role as a key resource for both academic and frontline IPC communities.

“With innovations like our new JIP Journal Clubs, this is an exciting time for the Journal. The next Editor-in-Chief will shape its future, ensuring it continues to meet the needs of a diverse and evolving readership.

“This is a rare opportunity to help shape infection prevention publishing and influence the conversation nationally and internationally.”

About the role

The Editor-in-Chief will be responsible for the strategic and practical development of the Journal, working closely with IPS’s Clinical Leadership and Engagement Committee (CLEC), IPS staff, and the Board of Trustees. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the Editorial Team and Editorial Board
  • Overseeing editorial standards and content
  • Driving engagement and promoting the Journal’s work
  • Supporting IPS’s wider ambition to champion accessible, practical, and evidence-based resources for those working in IPC

Administrative and publishing support is provided by IPS’s partners Yellowback and SAGE, allowing the Editor to focus on content, strategy, and engagement.

What we’re looking for

Applicants should bring subject expertise in IPC or a related field, as well as experience in editorial or peer review roles. A passion for helping others share their work and a strategic mindset are essential. Applications are welcome from both the UK and internationally; membership of IPS is not required to apply but would be expected upon appointment.

How to apply

Interested candidates are invited to submit a CV, a short list of publications (if applicable), and a covering letter outlining their suitability for the role, along with one idea or initiative they would bring to the Journal and its potential impact.
