The Journal of Infection Prevention (JIP) is delighted to announce its new editorial team, led by Professor Jean-Yves Maillard as Editor-in-Chief. This distinguished team brings together international experts in microbiology, infection prevention and control (IPC), and healthcare epidemiology, reflecting the journal’s commitment to advancing research and best practice in the field.
Professor Jean-Yves Maillard is an internationally recognised leader in pharmaceutical microbiology and infection control. With over 30 years of experience, his work has shaped global understanding of biocidal efficacy and microbial resistance, particularly in the development and evaluation of novel disinfection technologies, sporicides, and biofilm control strategies against both hydrated and environmental dry surfaces biofilms. His research has had significant translational impact, influencing standards, policies, and best practices worldwide. Professor Maillard has received multiple awards for innovation and engagement and has an extensive publication record, including more than 200 peer-reviewed articles, 20 book chapters, and three authoritative books. He brings experience to the Journal of Infection Prevention (JIP) having previously served as Chief Editor of Letters in Applied Microbiology for 14 years.
Joining him on the editorial team are:
- Dr Curtis Donskey, Infectious Diseases physician and hospital epidemiologist at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, focusing on the epidemiology and control of healthcare-associated pathogens.
- Associate Professor Nuntra Suwantarat, Infectious Diseases and Microbiology Consultant at Thammasat University Hospital, Thailand, with expertise in antimicrobial-resistant bacteria and IPC in resource-limited settings.
- Frédéric Barbut, clinical microbiologist and infection-control specialist at AP-HP, Paris, with a focus on Clostridioides difficile and perinatal microbiome research.
- Holly Slyne, Associate Director for Infection Prevention and Control at University Hospitals Northamptonshire, specialising in sustainable and innovative IPC solutions.
- Jon Otter, Consultant Clinical Scientist and Director of IPC at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, with research expertise in HCAI, AMR, and epidemiology.
- Leila Hail, Consultant Nurse and Deputy Director of IPC at University College London Hospitals, focusing on outbreak management, patient safety, and hospital design.
- Dr Phil Norville, Research Fellow at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, leading research on safe reuse and effective decontamination of medical products.
- Professor Stephanie J. Dancer, medical microbiologist and Professor of Microbiology at Edinburgh Napier University, with extensive editorial experience and research on hospital cleaning, infection control, and antimicrobial agents.
- Professor Vincent Cattoir, Professor of Clinical Microbiology at the University of Rennes and Head of the Bacteriology Department, specialising in pathogenicity and antimicrobial resistance in opportunistic bacteria.
