Marian Reed Development Programme 2024

The IPS West Midlands branch is once again happy to announce the running of the highly successful Marian Reed Development Programme for 2024.

This dynamic educational programme is suitable for all new to or junior Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) staff.

The primary aim of the programme is to provide delegates with a thorough and interactive introduction to topical issues and priorities within the IPC agenda whilst providing guidance in identifying areas for further exploration to build their knowledge, skills, and expertise. Central to the programme is the facilitation of networking with peers from across the region and further afield. Delegates will be provided with ample opportunity to engage and work with peers to discuss their individual IPC experiences and share innovative ideas and ways of working.

Some of the topics included in this year’s programme include antimicrobial resistance, management of safe water systems, decontamination, microbiology, IPC in non-acute settings and much more.

It is expected that all three days are attended to complete the programme and the dates are as follows,

Day 1 – Friday 19th April 2024

Day 2 – Monday 13th May 2024

Day 3 – Monday 10th June 2024

All three days of the 2023 programme will be held at:

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust,
Manor Hospital, Moat Road,
Walsall, West Midlands WS2 9PS

The third day of the course will involve delegates delivering a 5-minute (electronic – no need to print) poster presentation on an innovative change or quality improvement initiative that has been implemented in the delegates current area of work to improve IPC within the workplace or team.

The top three submissions (abstract and presentation) will be awarded:

  • First place – £100 amazon voucher
  • Second place – £50 amazon voucher
  • Third place – £25 amazon voucher

The winners will be announced at the end of day three.

Support will be provided to delegates in identifying suitable topics and creating posters however it is expected the delegates line manager and colleagues will also provide them with support in undertaking this.

The cost of this 3-day programme is £200 which includes refreshments and lunch.

Spaces on the course are limited to a maximum of 30 delegates and will therefore be allocated until the course is full. Notification will be sent for closure of submissions.
