Prof Katie Laird is a Professor of Microbiology in the School of Pharmacy and Deputy Director of the Leicester Institute for Pharmaceutical and Health Innovations Group at De Montfort University.

Her research is centred on the prevention of transmission of healthcare acquired infections including the development of novel antimicrobials. A particular focus of Prof Laird’s research is on the role of healthcare textiles as fomites, recently her research emphasis has been on developing a microbiological efficacy test standard for wash systems. She has extensive experience working with industry and her research is extensively published and recognised internationally. Prof Laird is also a founder of “A Germ’s Journey” charity teaching young children about health hygiene globally.
