About
Aled Rhys Davies is Founder and Managing Director of Pruex Ltd, a Welsh biotechnology company applying bacterial biofilm science to improve animal, environmental and public health. Aled was awarded the 2025 Nuffield Farming Scholarship Trust Greener Futures Award for his work linking antimicrobial resistance (AMR), nutrient cycling and sustainable production systems. His 2014 Nuffield Scholarship investigated global alternatives to antibiotics in agriculture, leading to a focus on how disinfectant overuse can destabilise microbiomes and unintentionally increase pathogen pressure.
Working across the UK, EU and Africa, Aled’s research explores how targeted Bacterial detergents can modulate biofilms, reduce ammonia and methane emissions, improve nutrient retention, and lower reliance on antibiotics. His work sits within a One Health framework, translating lessons from agriculture into wider infection prevention and environmental management strategies.
