Gillian Ray-Barruel, RN PhD, is a Senior Research Fellow with the University of Queensland School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work and the Herston Infectious Diseases Institute. She is also Education Director with the Alliance for Vascular Access Teaching and Research (AVATAR) and Associate Editor for the journal Infection, Disease and Health. Formerly a critical care nurse, Gillian has over 15 years of vascular access research experience, with a focus on device assessment and clinical decision making to improve patient outcomes. She is the creator of the I-DECIDED® device assessment and decision tool, which is in use in many hospitals worldwide.
