About
I am currently the Deputy Director of Infection prevention and Control and Consultant nurse covering both The Royal Cornwall NHS Hospital trust and Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. I have been in this role for the last 5 and a half years and enjoy the variety and challenges from covering both Acute and Community IPC. Prior to this role I have 17 years’ experience in various IPC posts, but with my Nursing career spanning 31 years. While working in IPC I have believed that key to the reduction of infection acquisition is communication and Education. With this aligning with the IPS (Infection Prevention Society) ethos I got further involved at branch and National level, starting as a branch co-ordinator, deputy Treasurer, and the Treasurer. The latter being particularly challenging due to being one of the 3 elected executives during the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2022 I was awarded an Honorary membership of IPS for the roles and services I have given to IPS. I am currently the deputy co-ordinator for the Sustainability SIG and represent IPS on One together and the NHS supply chain IPC clinical Council. I lead an IPC module at the Cornwall site with Plymouth University, where I am an honorary Research Fellow. In my spare time I enjoy getting out and around the beautiful areas in Cornwall where I live. My interest in Sustainability started as a personal interest and my hope to ensure I played my part in ensuring the future of the planet for my 3 children. This quickly overspilled into my work life as I could see a role where I could show that IPC could support sustainable Healthcare and not be the blocker people perceived it to be.
