About
Sarah is the Lead Nurse in Infection Prevention and Control at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, leading a team of specialist nurses across four large hospitals and associated community services. She safeguards patient safety by implementing and overseeing robust infection prevention strategies, delivering specialist guidance, facilitating effective audits to ensure compliance and continuous quality improvement, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to promote a culture of clinical excellence and best practice.
Sarh has most recently worked with IPS colleagues to develop a series of Aseptic technique infection prevention safety steps. Aseptic technique is critical to protecting susceptible sites such as IV devices and wounds from infection and is therefore an essential component of an infection prevention and control programme. The aseptic technique infection prevention safety steps (A-TIPSS) have been created to support appropriate glove use and align hand hygiene moments with aseptic technique procedures. Each A-TIPSS is accompanied by a video, which can be accessed by scanning the QR code, that shows the aseptic technique procedure being performed.
