Maura Smiddy is a lecturer in the School of Public Health, University College Cork, Ireland, teaching in the areas of Infection Prevention and Control and Public Health. Her main areas of interest focus on education, prevention of healthcare associated infection and provision of safe care to patients. She established and is Director of the online postgraduate MSc in Infection Prevention and Control in the School of Public Health, University College Cork.
She has had a number of roles with the IPS including Republic of Ireland Branch Coordinator and Chair of the Research and Development Committee. Past research projects include an evaluation of the impact of observational hand hygiene auditing on practice, identifying research priorities for the Infection Prevention Society and a current evaluation of the impact of infection prevention and control postgraduate education in the clinical setting.
