We were deeply saddened to learn of the recent passing of Pat Chislett, a highly respected member of the infection prevention and control community whose contribution to both the Infection Control Nurses Association (ICNA) and the Infection Prevention Society (IPS) spanned many years.
Pat demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the profession, supporting the work of the Society at both branch and national level. Within the Yorkshire Branch, she played a key role in shaping the Annual Study Day, serving as a valued member of the Committee for three years before going on to lead it for a further three years. Her leadership and dedication helped ensure the continued success and impact of this important educational event.
At a national level, Pat served as Honorary Treasurer of ICNA in 2007. Following the transition to IPS, she was elected by the membership to continue in this role from 2008 to 2009, reflecting the high regard in which she was held by her peers. She also contributed her expertise to a number of IPS working groups, including the Dental Audit Tool and Quality Improvement Tool groups, helping to advance practice and support improvements in patient care.
In recognition of her significant service and lasting impact on the profession, Pat was awarded Honorary Membership of IPS in 2012, shortly before her retirement from the NHS.
Pat will be remembered for her professionalism, generosity, and dedication to infection prevention and control. She leaves behind a legacy that has positively influenced colleagues and the wider healthcare community.
Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with Pat’s family, friends, and former colleagues at this difficult time.
