The third IPC Route to Net Zero Conference invites participants to explore the crucial relationship between Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and sustainable healthcare. As climate change continues to pose the greatest global threat to health, according to the World Health Organization, this event asks a vital question: Can we prevent infections while also reducing healthcare’s impact on the planet?
Held at the Novotel Sheffield Centre on 13 March 2026, the conference brings together leading experts who are using IPC knowledge and practice to drive forward greener, more resilient healthcare systems. Attendees will gain insights through inspiring keynote presentations, real-world case studies, and practical industry perspectives that highlight how IPC can be a powerful enabler of sustainability.
Organised by the Sustainability Special Interest Group of the Infection Prevention Society (IPS), the event is designed for IPC practitioners, sustainability professionals, and teams working in procurement and estates who are aiming to lower their organisation’s environmental footprint. An accompanying exhibition will offer opportunities to meet industry partners actively supporting sustainable healthcare delivery.
To maximise accessibility and minimise carbon impact, the conference will be available both in-person and online. Whether attending virtually or in-person, participants will come away equipped with strategies, connections, and inspiration to accelerate progress towards a net-zero future for healthcare.
Why attend?
Participants will leave with greater understanding of the challenge to healthcare from climate change, the impact of healthcare on the environment, and potential solutions to mitigate these challenges. This will include sharing of real life examples of sustainable healthcare projects enabled by IPC practitioners.
